Feedback from a registered manager  (DW) of 3 services that support autistic adults and adults with LD

It is essential to have this training for people to support people with Learning disabilities to understand their role to enable people that we support to achieve their goals and aspirations whilst being actively supported to enrich their lives. (being supported in the right way) Steve who delivers the training is very professional, compassionate, has empathy and actively listens to the needs of the service/client who then will design plans to support the team to deliver the best care to the people we support and the end goal is to achieve positive outcomes. Steve is very approachable and is always willing to answer any questions or queries I may have.

Feedback from a (KA) PBS practice leader

Steve delivered training which enabled staff to be proactive when delivering the correct active support. Ensuring the service users come first in all planning of care. Ensuring the service users have a voice and be heard. An example of this includes: a service user regularly would pinch and scratch both staff and other service users trying to communicate her needs. By implementing the correct Positive Behaviour Support Training and active support, the service user had consistency. Implementing step by step guidance worked well, minimising the behaviours of concern. Ensuring the service user received the best support for her. Absolutely would recommend this organisation as learning providers to other care providers.

Feedback from (MT) an owner of specialist residential services for adults with autism.

Steve was involved in the management review of the service prior to commencing training. He worked in the service as a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner/Practice Educator. Having worked in the service, Steve was able to support in the design and development of a programme of training that met the needs of the entire service. Steve involved the senior team and I in the development of the programme of training from a very early stage. He was able to laydown the basic framework which was then built upon on to meet the needs of the service. Steve was also extremely flexible in delivering ‘bitesize’ training sessions to ensure the training could happen without impacting on the delivery of the service. As a service we have seen a significant reduction in Behaviours of Concern in relation to number of individuals. We firmly believe that this is down to much earlier recognition of potential challenges which enables an earlier response to mitigate the issue and thus reducing anxiety. eg: the introduction of scatterplots to track and individual using ‘trigger words’ enabled a more robust evaluation of the range of words being used and in what circumstances which was instrumental in informing future care. I’d be very happy to recommend Steve to other providers of Learning Disability and Autism Services.

Feedback from (TD) a director of support services

Active Support training- new to the service. Implementation of more effective recording of ABC- actively seen support to a team manager about debriefing of ABC and what they are looking for and how to feedback positively. Support given to the team about effective ways to engage with the people we support and identifying slow triggers which may impact on engagement. Knowledge is outstanding, they are open and flexible to working alongside an organisation as to what the organisation needs.

Their focus is improving the lives of the people we support, by implementing more effective recording and documenting, implementing positive support, and working closely with the support team to improve their knowledge and practice in a positive, motivational manner. The organisation are extremely professional while being open, approachable and flexible to the needs of the service they are working in. The organisation are effective at identifying where the improvement needs are, providing an action plan which is effective and realistic to what the organisation can meet.

Feedback from (SM) a learner who attended training

The training has made such a positive impact for me in my job but also out of work too. I feel like I look at situations differently now which positively helps within my role. It’s given me a different level of understanding in which I can support the people I look after, in a better way. After training, we discussed the course as a group and spoke about it being very useful. I know I can ask my manager to contact Steve, should I need any support or guidance with anything regards PBS. I also wrote down lots of notes during training, that I can refer back should I need to. Nothing to add, great course.

Feedback from (DG) a learner who attended training

The training has made me realise my way of thinking is on the right track, but I have not got all the answers just yet. I often feel silly asking questions, but I know this is not a weakness anymore. Teamwork is paramount in our line of work. Steve asked us how we felt he had done & to be brutally honest in our answers. This is a fantastic way to help improve your training but also makes the trainees feel valued. I really could not find anything to critique when asked either! Steve has been in touch a few times which really hammers home he cares & that this is not just a job to him. Our management team also really hammer home the importance of this training. This has made what I’ve learned stay fresh in my brain for much longer than most the training I attend. Just keep being you, Steve. You really do help us make a difference.
